When I have done this modification I leave the existing system in place so that if the relay circuitry would fail I can unplug the relay harness at the lamp and plug the original harness in. At least that gives you some redundancy. Of course you should install separate circuits (relays & wiring)

Larry, The addition of relays to just about every car will yield an increase in current to the headlights and the resulting increase in illumination. It will, in fact, reduce current flow through the switch and related wiring. This one of the best "bang for your buck" modifications you can do.
