It is cold. Currently +9F outside. Garage doesn't feel any warmer, although
some bottles of water I have sitting on the workbench haven't frozen. I am
going to put a thermometer on the hood of the Benz overnight to see just how
cold he garage is.

Lots of possibilities, including a stuck shutoff servo. Could be
gelled fuel (although not likely if you put treatment in the tank), a
cracked line, leaking fuel lines, or a bad hand pump if you still have

Shut-off valve is relatively new, hand pump is equally new, fuel lines are
in good condition. Glow plugs upgraded from loop to pencil. I got "good"

Something's not right -- my 300D starts reliably down into the single
digits (at least, the old one did, don't know about the new one, hasn't
been that cold yet). Even an elderly diesel should start reliably down
to 0F.

When was your last fuel fill? Before or after Labor Day?
If it has mostly winter fuel in it, I wouldn't think 10-20F would
be a problem (unless there is water in the fuel).
You can probably use a hair dryer in the intake as a replacement
or supplement to the GP system.

I put in 1/4 tank (to top it off) last week but I don't think they had
shifted to the winter mix at that point. Probably have mostly #2 diesel with
a little bit leftover of biodiesel (just B-2), plus half a bottle of
PowerSource. ... I am beginning to think water has accumulated in the
primary fuel

More tree limbs fell during the night. One took out our mailbox,
another was across the hod of the SDL this morning - looks like it
fell, then bounced over - no dents that I can see.
The house is at 60F, outside is up to 33F, it's raining. This is the
largest power outage that OK has had, over 500k
ll in the basement either...
House was built in 1938 by a guy who worked in a wooden toy factory. He did a
reasonably good job but insulation was largely overlooked.

The issue with balancing MB driveshafts is how to hold them in the
balancer as they don't have a standard slip spline nor an open u-joint
like everyone else uses. The adapters are available -- for $1500 each
(and you need both ends) -- unless a shop sees enough of them to pay
for the adapters
