Small wire (purple, I seem to remember) is the start current to energize the solenoid. You can jumper to the connection at the shock tower or to the terminal on the starter, or you can simply bridge the big and small terminals on the starter to energize the solenoid. MAKE SURE IT"S NOT IN GEA

Very likely a bad solenoid or a broken wire. Or a bad neutral safety switch! Move the shifter around, ending in neutral to see if it starts then. If not, check to see that the solenoid wire is getting voltage when the key switch is in start position. Peter

Try shorting across the big terminals of the solenoid with a big screwdriver. If that causes the starter to turn, short from the battery's big terminal to the small terminal for the solenoid power. If the engine cranks, you have bad wiring to the solenoid. If the engine does not crank, the soleno

Just got back from picking up a 1980 450SL. The car is in pretty good shape, but presently will not start. The car sat all winter, and does not even turn over. No clicking, and with the headights on and turning the key, the lights do not dim. I am thinking the starter is froze, or solenoid is lo
