Now I am confused. Lit her off this morning and it spews clouds, there is a growing sheen in the rain soaked street from the tail pipe, and I am not seeing any oil in the vac lines or leaking fuel, other than the tail pipe. I wonder it may be coolant in the block, so I undo the rad cap.

Very likely. When you replace it, make absolutely positive that the locking screw hole is clean and dry, else the screw will come loose and beat the housing and cam to death, and likely also puncture the diaphragm again. Peter ___
