Kaleb, 7.1 surround is two in front, two in the rear, two in the middle between front and rear, centre channel and sub. There's also 9.1 (don't ask) It may be that the PS3 is not sending 5.1 as the default or that the tv is not set to receive 5.1 as default from the optical in. Check the setup

OK, so for my receiver I have a Kenwood that has 2 optical inputs for surround sound. The receiver of course switches automatically to whatever mode is received (2.0, 5.1, or whatever). I have the HDDVD player hooked to one port, and the sat box hooked to the other. I just discovered we have
