I have checked the tv but I will check again, dont think there was an
option for setting the optical out.

7.1 surround is two in front, two in the rear, two in the middle between
front and rear, centre channel and sub. There's also 9.1 (don't ask)
It may be that the PS3 is not sending 5.1 as the default or that the tv is
not set to receive 5.1 as default from the optical in. Check the setup
