I think the Citroen SM had steerable headlamps in Europe but not in USA.

The 99 E Class with HID lights adjusts the beam position depending on
rear load so that you don't blind oncoming drivers as much when you
put a bunch of crap in the trunk. That was probably cheaper than
putting SLS on the car.

keep people like us from diddling with it if it was somehow integrated

Nash it's only the HID's and not the halogens; euro law requires washers and
levelers on HID's, so you have to make sure the car is empty/level as well as
the motors are zeroed when you do the static aim, else you might find yourself
illuminating your bumper or overhead signs or something...
