I had to replace the KLIMA relay in my 1985 300TD - is that the one located
inconveniently behind the RF side kick panel?

Yeah, a few things. I wish none of mine were '85s. Don't like
them.
They have the KLIMA system that ties the tachometer and the AC
compressor turning and other stuff into one egg basket.

Yes, the 85s are quicker off the line due to a high stall torque converter.
Turbo engages almost immediately. It has a 2.88:1 rear end ratio for better
fuel economy.
It has a A/C cut out when floori

Unlike most gassers, the MB diesels can go all day at redline. That
is typically how the 4 cylinders are driven.
When I had a chovey, the redline was 4500. I don't know about
current deetriot iron,
My understanding is that these diesels don't have the
same revs==gas that most cars do. Perhaps they were
after a quieter highway ride, not fuel economy? Would
still need a higher stall speed TC to make up for the
loss of off-the-line acceleration. But that would also

I have always had trouble understanding rear end ratios.
Simple. a 4.11 rear end: the driveshaft turns 4.11 revolutions per
one revolution of both axles.
3.50 rear end: the driveshaft turns 3.5 revolutions per one
revolution of both axles.
3.00 rear end: the driveshaft turns 3.00 revoluti

I have always had trouble understanding rear end ratios. So, a lower number is
a taller gear and you get better fuel mileage at the cost of acceleration, but
you get higher top end speed? Is that right? Why would they want to

123's don't have mechanical tachometers. The electronic tach
amplifier is jacked into the diagnostic plug. On 85's they
integrated it into something else.

Morons who don't know that a 300D is not a 300d irritate me.
Maybe even more than the ones who call it a 300TD.

This looks interesting. Not
I believe the stall speed on the torque converter is higher on the 85, and
there are some other details as well, but that's the biggie as I recall.

123 Diesels were 82 and 83. I have never had an 85. Isn't there some weird
stuff about the 85 that is unique. This one is here in Wichita, so I might
look at it.
