Not much oil up there with the engine off, after all. When it's
running, though, oil flies off the cam all over the bottom of the cap,
and if the gasket isn't sealing completely, it runs out, fills up the
little well around the cap, and then runs off the valve cover down the
side of the engine

I have some minor leaks on the 300D -- worst one was a leaking oil
filler cap, replaced them on all the Benzes and reduced the oil
consumption considerably. I never have to add oil between changes
(6000 miles or so) on the 300D, have to add a quart or two on the TE.

Long day working on vehicles, with a warning about vacuum hoses. On
the 92 300TDt I first pulled the passenger headlamp which has the
euro wagon level control feature, careful not to
bust the vacuum hose. This was required so I could look at the bosch
headlamp wiper unit which wasn't workin
