Yeah. It took a couple of weeks for my eyebrows to grow back after cleaning
some powered contacts several decades ago.
Lesson learned.

You need a Dim Bulb Tester for this -- put a incandescent light bulb in series
with the hot side of the power plug. Unlike a Variac (which reduces the
voltage) the light bulb will limit the current, allowing you to troubleshoot
without frying anything.

Well this old girl came right to life, 35 or 40 years of dust cooking off,
tubes glowing familiarly, warmly. It sounds pretty damn good. I just think it’s
odd that when i enter the model number into the Google machine nothing comes
up.

It's usually the old, dried up electrolytic capacitors, and they are easy
to see - the bottom is usually pushed out. IIRC, you have replaced those in
MB boards - the big old console will be easier to work on.

It has to be done carefully, else your replacements pop just like the originals
did.
Bringing them up slowly on a Variac and probing carefully around the circuitry

keep an eye on things along the way is often a very good thing. Check the
I am also somewhat into old console stereos. I have one I bought at a thrift
store we i was about 14. It is a fancy maganvox and as far as I know still
works. Have not fired it up in many years. I also have my grandmothers RCA from
about 1968 that I used to listen to when I was at her house. I w
1) Make sure the unit is unpowered. Don't ask me how I know this.
2) Spray contact cleaner on contacts while working them.
3) Dry with canned air.
4) Plug in and enjoy improved sound!

Guess I missed that one. Sorry!
I also have a spray can of their sliding rheostat cleaner. Good stuff for
cleaning out the sliders on sound boards, equalizers, etc.

Dan, you almost managed to write Amazon directly above where I wrote Amazon.
Keep trying, you'll get it there. ;)

Well, a Top Secret stalk needs a top secret cleaner.
I suppose you probably mean turn signal...
DeOxit is the _the_ stuff. Available in pen dropper, brush,
spray, and probably gallon jugs.

Right off the can, I bought mine directly from the company. Still not
cheap, but no middle man markup. They shipped same day, I had two cans in
hand in 3 days via USPS.
Get some, you'll be glad you did. Nothing else works as well. As I recall,
two cans cost me $26.00 and change with
You can probably find it on Amazon, too. Great stuff, I wouldn’t use anything
else. Not cheap, but unless you’re really sloppy, a can will last a long time.
The one I have is at least 4-5 years old.

There is only one choice in contact cleaners, de-oxit. If you've still got a
Radio Schmuck they've got a small overpriced can. Amazon can hook you up
otherwise.
