The breather issues are well-known and documented, and despite the small sample I’ve worked with/owned, there doesn’t seem to be any consistency of when you can expect it to occur. It seems like the breather tube that goes into the back of the engine will clog up around 100k or thereabouts, but

Yes I don’t really get this m112s that use a lot of oil. Our 05 seems to use a lot of oil. I think I have 15w40 in it now and perhaps it slowed it down but it still using oil. I’m wondering if these things need to have valve seals replaced. Seems like I looked into that once and concluded it mig

I pretty much run everything on 15w40 now days. On the breather covers there are tiny holes in then that you have to clean out that IIRC can cause increased oil consumption. Also, if the seal that goes from the air intake to the valve body gets hard and somehow supposedly caused increased oil co

I'd consider 5w40 too, back when I was trying to get a 240D to start in the cold I found it to be the best balance of "easy to start" and "easy to keep in the engine". I changed the oil in my mother's 2014 Jeep Cherokee the other day. It takes 0w20, dang stuff is like water. Fortunately the pro

I was pretty surprised at the difference. I totally understand and expected consumption to decrease, but not that much. Guess I ought to look at using it in the 98 W210 wagon, as it’s approaching 220k but it doesn’t use anywhere near that much oil. The 2002 W210 sedan hasn’t quite reached 150k.

Angie's car likes a heavier oil. For the BEW engine VW spec includes 5w30 or 5w40. Her car will leak a quart of 5w30 every 1000 miles regular as tiddles. With 5w40 it leaks/burns a quart in about 8,000, quite acceptable for an 18 year old car I think. -Curt On Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 05

A follow-up on this: I talked to Jono (Jonathan @ Blue Ridge Mercedes) and the first thing he said to do was bump the oil viscosity to 15W-50 (Mobil1). I’ve used the usual 0W-40 in it since I’ve owned the car or it’s been in my stable. It’s been running since June with 15W-50, and has about 3,0

I want to say the valve covers themselves can leak, as can the oil filter housing and the oil cooler (if it has one) can leak. Rick From: mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: June 21, 2023 5:52 PM To: mercedes@okiebenz.com Reply-to: mercedes@okiebenz.com Cc: d...@penoff.com Subject: [MBZ] M112 Breather
