In honor of MOPO's birthday, I ask a question: what was the very first movie
poster that you obtained?
For me, it was the very rare insert for the James Stewart classic film Mr.
Hobbs Takes a Vacation. I bought this treasure from none other than Bruce
Carteron at the Denver poster store
Congrats, Scott.
Well done!

I think mine was a Creature from the Black Lagoon lobby card, mail ordered
from Tanner Miles around 1972 or '73--he was my only source of movie
posters as a teenager living in the middle of Iowa, other than an annual
collectors show 30 miles away that sometimes had a few. -Tom

Not earthshaking, but the first movie poster I ever owned was a Heavy
Traffic one sheet. I was a young cartoonist at the time and a Ralph Bakshi
fan. I didn't buy it, I was active in my college film society at the time
and responsible for promotional materials so I lost it. Hung on my bedroom
wall
I didnt have a first that I remember but my introduction was in 1983. I was
working at a collectables shop in college and the owner bought the Rebel
Poster Exchange. A semi backed up to the store one day full to the brim of
posters and stills. Several hundred thousand posters(maybe ½ million+?
It was the late 1960s, I think '69. I was probably twelve and I saw in the
paper that in Dallas there was a Nostalgia Fair held by Don Maris, I believe.
I believe it was at the old Sheraton, long gone now. My grandmother took me and
