At one point, my mom's doctor took on a new partner... An older friend's
son. At that time she was pregnant with my youngest sister and the
potential existed that this young doctor would be on call when she went into
labor. How is that for creepy???

I would also just take from whatever is the best in your own classroom,
even if it is just parts that are best. A really great paragraph, an
especially good use of vocabulary, some really good images, etc. Of
course, I would ask permission of the student.
Also, you might check your own state

How about the idea of "turn and talk"???
I think a lot of teachers don't know how to teach kids to converse
productively...and giving the kids time to talk really does help them
internalize
strategies.
