My district is using Aimsweb for reading--the RCBM and the MAZE. We are in
our second year. This is the way we are using it.
The RCBM is a passage that the child reads for one minute. There are three
passages available to be given at one time. There is a standard set of
three passages to be
It's so important to remember that districts need a variety of data in making
instructional decisions. I agree that the Aimsweb is a reliable screening
measure, but it doesn't measure what a child does with a real text in front of
them. It's too bad we can't get a valid reliable measure that
Hi Sandra,
I'm wondering if you can describe what you mean by 'crazy scores'.
Our district is using a different, yet similar tool. We too are looking for
instructional instead of independent level. I believe the reasoning is sound.
If you stop at an independent level, you may stop
Carol,
I couldn't agree with you more. I have kids that can pass the Aimsweb
fluency and even the cloze procedure but yet when they have to perserve
through a longer text, they are unable to do so. So many of this probes

I also am in my second year of teaching Read 180. I teach Stage B to 6th
graders. My classes include both Gen.Ed. and Students w/Disabilities. I also
require my students to keep a daily reading log. I check the logs every Friday
for a grade and for the most part, knowing that the logs
