If you find the doc, I would like to see/know more about it, please.

I'm just getting back into this discussion group - SO glad I didn't miss this
post! I teach a 2/3 and would so appreciate the list of mentor texts for those
grade levels. Thank you.

Elisa, thank you for your kind offer to share. I would love to see your
materials. I'll be teaching 5th grade for the 1st time (after having 1st, 2/3
split) and I know there are some kiddos who would benefit from something like
this.
Thanks,
Judy

I think it is necessary to level books so that ALL students can find a "just
right" book. I'm even more convinced of this after reading "The Book
Whisperer". I did it for my third grade class and it made
Can hardly wait for this discussion! Being (relatively) new teachihng, I've
been reading bits and pieces of discussions, research, etc. about the
effects/non-effects of strategy instruction. Have not seen/read this article
but would like to.

I've ordered some DVDs from them and have been less than enthralled. I was
eager to share the CAFE DVD w/my team mates and they were just plain
disappointed. In fact, the comment was they were glad I had spent the money on
it and they had not. Thanks, guys. ;-)

We, too, use the handhelds. My complaint is that there is no time/place to take
specific notes on each student as they read. I try to take some time to record
thoughts, findings, etc. before the next reader appears but I don't always
remember all those things I'd like to jot down. I do, however
have never heard of this 8 block response. would like to know what, how, when,
etc. you use it. thanks.

I think the content objecrtive is what you want the students to learn and the
language objective is how the student will demonstrate that they've learned it.

I'm assuming you're in the Kennewick district. I'm in Renton. I'd like to look
at the book you refereced. Is Amazon the best place to search or on the
publisher's website? THANKS!
The book that some of us in my school district read is Annual Growth,
Catch-Up Growth by Lynn Fielding, Nancy
Sure hope you share online. Would love to see this.
