Some of my colleagues and I decided to use WTW this year. I teach 3rd.
After reading the Words Their Way, I anticipated that most of my students
would be in the Within Word Pattern stage, so I bought the book for the extra
sorts. It has worked well for all my students. There are sorts for
as an additional resource, you can check proteacher.net and go to the peony

Isn't it sad that many in our field have no curiosity, no desire to learn
beyond what they know unless they are compensated for it. We tried to have a
book study last year and even got out Partners in Education group to
purchase copies of MOT for us. We sent the books home for summer reading

instructor had several resources on hand for interventions. One of them is
available through the University of Texas at Austin/ Texas Education Agency. I
found that the easiest way to access it was to type in the name
Our district uses DIBELS also. Students are tested at grade level (ex: all
my 3rd graders, regardless of their ability level, read the same 3 third grade

passages. It seems to me that if you are assessing fluency in
Carol, you said the average was counted on the 3 passages of the Benchmark.
Actually, according to the literature from the University of Oregon, it isn't
the average. They take the middle score and count that as the student's wpm

Our district has had AR for several years (12 elementary schools).
Interestingly enough, each school seems to have made it's own revisions on the
program. Some schools only let their kids check out a new AR book

We also use the STAR test. I think the important thing to remember about it is
that it's basically a test of vocabulary. I watch my students as they test and
see the answers they pick. The missing word to one of the sentences is

Kathy, you might try the library at your nearest university or teaching

Dolly, I have to say that we have been very fortunate in our school library.
New Mexico voters voted for funding for libraries in the state that included
school libraries. Plus our local district has given us chunks of money. We
have a really great librarian who asks for teacher input as to

I was glad to see what Laura and Bill had to say about AR. Our district has
had AR for about 10 years. My school gives the kids an hour a day for AR. They
are free to come and go to the library at will during that time. We do not
give rewards for points other than recognition that they
