for the first time this year. I am wondering if someone has an
informational letter for parents that they would be willing to share.
We would like us to give parents some form of explanation at our Parent

have tried this in past years, but it doesn't ever seem to take. I teach
the expectations and model, model, model. Any suggestions?

using them for the past five years. Each year, I get better and better at
modeling and teaching the kids my expectations. In turn, the discussions
the kids have and the questions they write, get better and better each
year.
Sounds great. I use the mini lesson book by Harvey for Lit Circles for
ideas.

1. logistics
2. how book club members have good talk about their book
3. genre-specific lessons
4. strategy lessons

It doesn't sound like you have done anything wrong! I think you should continue
to monitor the groups, allowing those students who still do not seem to get it
to share their observations of those who are more successful. Reflection on
