I think that work by Marie Clay would be a good place to look for research on the reading-writing connection. "Change Over Time" looks as if there may be some info. in the first 2 chapters. In "Becoming Literate " Chap. 2 has a section called "How Writing Contributes to Early Reading Success".

There is a professional resource book by Lester Laminack called Cracking the Author's Craft. It lists multiple mentor texts AND comes with a DVD. He does a couple of the lessons for YOU on the DVD (for the student to view). It also has other items on the DVD for teachers only. Excellent resource
