Around noon today (Sunday, January 21, 2007) Joel Schmidt and I spotted a
Short-eared Owl sitting on a large hay bale in ea
To supplement Mike's earlier posting, my group saw a total of 4 Great
Gray Owls on Hedbom Rd this morning, even though we didn't arrive there
until about 9 am. Today's light snow and overcast were certainly
conducive to keeping the owls active long after sunrise:

I'm sorry for the late report but we just got back home and have access to a
computer. John Bissell and I came up and birded Aitkin, St. Louis, and Dakota
Counti
At 4:15 this afternoon I had a GREAT GRAY OWL along Aitkin County 18
just to the east of Pietz's Road (320th place). The bird was very
cooperative and almost flew into my truck with me. Also seen along
C.R.18 were: 30 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, NORTHERN SHRIKES, PINE
GROSBEAKS and ROUGH-LEGGED HA
Today at 2:00 pm Doug
Kieser , Linda Sparling and myself refound the Mountain Bluebird at 175th &
Presley Circle . The look was brief but satisfying.
