[mou] Lake Calhoun update

A bunch of waterbirds arrived on Lake Calhoun in south Minneapolis overnight: lots of Horned Grebes again, also RB Mergansers, scaup, loons, and a few Bonaparte's Gulls. Last evening there was a RN Grebe at the north end, and one Palm Warbler among the scores of Yellow-rumps, all on the ground.

Good Morning Fellow birders, This morning our Ornithology class was out at Buffalo River State Park Not much warbler activity: Black and White, Yellow-rumped, and Common Yellowthroat were the only ones we saw. Numerous, Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers, several Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, and

[mou] Red-throated Loons in Duluth

Around 12:30 pm today (April 29), 2 Red-throated Loons were seen on L Superior in Duluth. They flew south to north over the lake past my position at Lafayette Square/31st Street, and I lost sight of them as they landed on the lake, perhaps halfway between 31st St and downtown. One of the

[mou] Western tanager, Pine County

I have had a male Western tanager at my house for over 24 hours now; last sighting was around 7:30 tonight (4/29). It has been hanging out with a flock of white throated sparrows, foraging for seeds on the ground under my feeder. For pictures, please visit my blog at
