I found 12 swans on Perch L. this morning. A scope would be needed to id species. A flock of 50+ were present yesterday. There were 2-5 birds on three different small patches of open water. At one spot there were two adults and two juveniles. The north sewage pond at Mapleton is frozen over

The two WW Scoters reported earlier were still present in the SE section of L. Vadnais in mid-afternoon, among a large flock of predominantly Ring-necked Ducks. This afternoon I drove up to Aitkin County Road 18 and found a GREAT GRAY OWL about 4/10 of a mile to the west of Pietz's Road (320th Lane) at about 4 o'clock. I also found 22 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS (most of these were along C.R. 5 north of Palisade), 2 flocks of SNOW BUNTINGS, a GRAY JAY on C.R. !
