I was down in Southern clay Co. this morning where the G. Prairie
Chickens were active also Snow Geese, Tundra Swans, Northern Harriers,
Killdeer, and lots of Canada Geese.

Coinciding with the first gnats, flies, and mosquito an Eastern Phoebe was
singing from a treetop along the east shore of Rapids Lake. Other arrivals to
the area today were Canvasback at both Rapids Lake and Assumption Lake, a
single Blue-winged Teal at Rapids Lake, many American Coot at
Yesterday morning (Friday the 16th) we banded 74 birds at Carpenter Nature
Center. 46 were Dark-eyed Juncos and 14 were American Tree Sparrows. I figured
they had been down in Iowa and are on their way to the far north.

I had a male Eastern Bluebird work his way across the yard today, a big
surprise for me as we are on the shore of Lake Waconia in a primarily wooded
lot FOY and new yard bird, too!
The rookery on the island in Lake Waconia is quite active with Great Blue
Herons, haven't seen any Egrets
I spent a few hours today at Wild River State Park in Chisago County. When I
arrived at the visitor center, there was a noisy red-shouldered hawk soaring
low over the parking lot. I had to wait an hour but the the Carolina wren
finally made an appearance giving a nice look. Lots of fox
Al Loken called ~4:30 this afternoon to report at least 8 Greater
White-fronted Geese were present at Mud Lake in Duluth, which is a
backwater of the St Louis River in the Gary-New Duluth neighborhood.
This species is only Casual to Rare-Regular in NE Minn, and this
sighting fits in with
The last three mornings at the dam have been filled with waterfowl at the Coon
Rapids Dam. I've seen many ring necked ducks, a single hooded
merganser,several common mergansers and common goldeneye, at least two
canvasbacks and half a dozen redheads. Today I saw my first loon of the season
The Agassiz Valley Water Resources impoundment east of Warren Minnesota was
full of waterfowl today. Hundreds of Canada Geese, nearly a hundred
Cackling Geese, a handful of Snow Geese, dozens of Trumpeter Swans, Bald
Eagles, Western Meadowlarks, displaying Sharp-tailed Grouse, Red-tailed
Hawk,
Driving through Jay Cooke State Park today I noticed several bald eagles flying
over. I pulled over on a rise near where Hwy 210 joins Jay Cooke Road at 12:25
and over the next thirty minutes counted 52 bald eagles, 6 red-tailed hawks,
and 5 sharp-shinned hawks fly over. Later, while casually

While the huge flocks of large waterfowl have dispersed from Lake Byllesby
and the hoped-for huge flocks of shorebirds seem yet to arrive, there were
nice assortments of previously reported duck species at the Randolph
Industrial Park and the 180th St. Marsh. Interestingly enough, both places
