If taking Lexington, go to Hwy 18 and turn RT. (it's a split turn, the west
section comes first, do not turn L or west, the east turn comes in about
another 1/2 mile), go east approx. 3-4 miles to Zodiac, turn L or north. At
the T, go Rt, and follow the roads around; keep making left turns at the
1st arrival at my colony here in Otsego this morning, 3 days earlier than
last year. I had 46 successful nests last year with 175 fledged, hoping for
more this year.

I managed 65 species this morning at a few locations across the county. The
only new bird for the year was a couple of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers at Rapids
Lake MVNWR. There were still 17 waterfowl species in the area, but they were
generally in small numbers. My first non-overwintering
Saw a Merlin zip by along Prospect Blvd. in West St. Paul today. Usually I
see a few of these through the winter months, but this is the first one I¹ve
seen since last fall. Otherwise, this seems like a rather poor excuse for a
migration. Very few birds, very few species.

I've been out of town since birding Carlos Avery in the late afternoon/early
evening on Wednesday but here is my report for those who where interested.
In the wooded area on the southern edge - pair of mallards (usually see Wood
Ducks here as well but the water levels are a little low).
Bald
Anxiously awaiting more shorebirds, and planning a Big Stone/Salt Lake day
trip or two, but curious for more experienced birders if there are areas
near the cities you like for shorebirds. I believe Purgatory Creek is a good
spot in Eden Prairie, and was thinking perhaps Louisville Swamp could be
