John Hockema just called to report that he and Andy Nyhus are looking at
about 2,000 shorebirds on the mudflats of Minnesota Lake in northern
Faribault County. He mentioned at least nine species present (but probably
more) highlighted by four American Avocets. They were viewing the lake from

Field Trip Report
Enjoyed a nice trip to Whitewater state park and the surrounding counties. We
observed a little over 90 species of birds for the trip. We observed close to

Again with this qualifier that it may be old news to the locals, but these
were my first cardinals, singing or not, in Duluth since 2010. The song
attracted me over to the thicket, behind the row of crab apple trees, as I
was jogging along Park Point between the playground and the last few
houses.
