Curt Rawn and I explored the Blue Hill hiking trails this morning. At one
point I briefly heard a couple of White-winged Crossbills fly over the
spruce stand, but we never heard them again (and we never saw them). The
only other things of note in the area were one or two Golden-crowned
Kinglets and
Today at Lake Harriet, at 2 pm on the south side of the lake, male Red-
breasted Merganser swimming and diving with what I think was a
female Red-breasted Merganser. Nearby were 5 swimming Horned
Grebes. Discussed these sightings with man who had a 2 foot long

Thanks to a tip from Garrett Wee with his eBird report from last weekend, the
Minn Birding Weekends group saw a nice concentration of 1000s of waterfowl at
Miedd L this morning. These included an estimated 2800 Gr White-fronted Geese,
at least 10 Ross's Geese mixed in with 100 or so Snows, 240 T
All,
The Prairie's Edge Wildlife Drive at Sherburne NWR opened this week. It
WILL be closed today and tomorrow - Friday & Saturday - for a prescribed
burn, but will re-open again on Sunday. This is 3-4 weeks earlier than
usual.
