I counted at the school on Hwy 55 in Plymouth. This school is called Tiny
Acorns and Newton's Apple. I found zero swifts entering the chimney. A month
ago it had 430. Tonight, I saw 3 swifts, 4 common nighthawks and a bat.

Birds started entering the chimney at 8:50pm and were in by 9:15pm.
I also saw one Common Nighthawk.
A question for the Swift counters. Have you noticed Robins flying in one
particular direction during these counts?

I counted about 300 chimney swifts entering a school chimney on Hwy 55 in
Golden Valley, MN.
They started entering the chimney at about 8:55pm and were done by 9:13pm.
I have made a short video with my new camera. It takes a while to download and
was rejected by the MOU list serv; it's a little
! Take the afternoon off, do some birding along the St.
Croix or just come for the birding company after work. Make connections, see
old friends and welcome new ones! 1900 Tower Drive, Stillwater, MN 55082

I planted Salvia by my balcony feeders to help feed the hummers. I have
watched the American Goldfinches eating the Salvia leaves and blossoms. There
are some ants on the Salvia, but I do not remember Finches eating ants, either.
Have others seen this?

My favorite was a bird release from the Raptor Center. I set free a GHO on
the day the Wellstones died. We had signed up for a smaller bird, but they
had 4 of these, and no Saw Whets. Thank you Nancy!

Not sure how accurate it was I wanted to do it again. Black birds were quickly
going into a chimney with black clouds behind it.
Sunday I brought help. With 2 other counters, we averaged 367 swifts. Likely a
more accurate count.

I feed the birds with nyger and black oil seeds. I am trying to cut down on the

shelled vs unshelled sunflower seeds? How many ounces of seed are in a pound of
black oil seed?

Today from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, I did not find the Townsend's Solitaire at the

ago by a party with a bird call device.
I saw from a distance what might have been an American Kestrel.

large trees.
These birds both had a very faint belly band, white speckled V on the scapulars
and noticeable red tails. One was much larger than the other. I saw them at 9
am and later at 11:45 am., and watched the larger one fly off 1/4 mile NE. I
did not spot a nest.
