past 5 days. It was found by Milt Blomberg on Thursday.

Curt Rawn and I saw 1 Solitaire near the historical wintering spot in Sand
Dunes State Forest. It was on the south side of 253rd near a bunch of
birch. This is about 200 feet before the end of the pavement. Also seen on
south side from forest road.

About 1/3 of the canal is open, present are the Common Eider, 4 Northern
Pintail, 30 American Black Duck, 40 Common Goldeneye and hundreds of
Mallards.
Gulls included Thayers, 4 Glaucous, an Iceland, a Great Black-Backed and
many Herring.

As I was driving home from work, I noticed a bird on the power pole next to
the Rockwoods Grill sign. I pulled into the parking lot and confirmed it

Randy Frederickson and I arrived at 9 am. After a few minutes we were able
to observe 1 Least Tern flying around and picking food off the surface of
the water. After about 10 minutes it flew right over us and headed
southwest and hasn't returned.

We just got to the farm and saw the Wood Stork flying away and went behind

Yesterday after we saw the nesting Black-Necked Stilts at the Herman sewage
ponds, we went to the North Ottawa impoundment and saw 4 White-Faced Ibis,
a Cattle Egret and many other birds.

We found a pair of Western Kingbirds in the same area they have been seen
in other years in Ramsey in Anoka Co. Take Taprock St off of 10/169 and
pull into the empty lot on the right. Male was seen by large Ash tree next
to the highway west of siren.

I birded the river starting at downtown Elk River and was surprised to hear
then see flying off a Killdeer. There was also a robin behind the empty bank
building. Other birds seen in the river were Trumpeter Swans, 50+, Common
Mergansers 6, Common Goldeneyes 50+, and mallards. I moved to Otsego Co.
I took a drive along the Mississippi from Elk River to Champlin along the
Great River Road. I saw approximately 150 Trumpeter Swans some at most stops
along the way. I saw a few Bald Eagles, one was on a nest in the middle of a
probable Heron Rookery in Otsego. I also saw what looked like a group o

On 4/30/12 I saw my resident barn swallow flying amongst the hordes of
martins and just now I heard my 1st chimney swift of the year. I also heard
the house wren yesterday so all the nesting birds from last year in my yard
are back.
