Jo
Carol and William Beste found a male Long-tailed Duck among the Common
Goldeneyes on theeast side of Lake Harriet in Minneapolis this morning. At noon
it was in the southwest corner of thelake with Goldeneyes but it took some
patience to see as it seem to spend more time under waterthan above.

There were more than 30 Hooded Mergansers in the pond at Lakewood Cemetery at
2:30PM today, Saturday. Even though it's a common species, I thought it might
be an interesting opportunity for a nature photographer. I've never seen so
many males so close with their crests fully exte
Bruce Seiber and I saw a red-necked grebe and two Bonaparte's gulls at the
northeast corner of Nelson Pool from the Wildlife Drive in Sherburne National
Wildlife Refuge on Sunday. There were numerous Franklin's gulls at the Rogers
sewage treatment pond on South Diamond Lake Road.

er if there
could be more than just the pair. While the female was feeding I believe I saw
another merlin call and fly by her going in the SE direction. It could
have been a third bird or it could have been the male I saw a minute later in
the alley.
