I went out looking for shorebirds in Blue Earth County on Sunday. Habitat is
typically sparse but I was able to find some interesting areas.
Area 1: A small wetland on CR168. Take CR10 east from Beauford. Turn south on
CR16 and east on CR168. Shorebirds present: Wilson's Snipe,

This afternoon Bob Williams and I birded the large sewage ponds on the
north side of Annandale in northwest Wright County. There are four
ponds present here, and the water level in each was fairly low. The
best habitat was at the pond farthest west. Present were:

This afternoon I went to the Foley sewage lagoons and Gilman sewage
ponds. Foley had all of the shorebirds. Gilman interestingly enough had a Black

It looks like the "fall" shorebird migration has already begun in the
Twin Cities. This morning on the extensive mudflats at Chaska Lake
were about 65 Killdeer, 7 Lesser Yellowlegs, and 13 Least Sandpipers.
The habitat looks excellent right now and should remain so into August
if not later.
Sunday afternoon I found a handful of shorebirds in a wet field on the
south side of Co. Rd. 8 about 2 miles west of Ceylon(just west of 80th
Ave)in southwest Martin County. I had American Golden Plover, Baird's
Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Greater Yellowlegs and several Wilson's
Snipe.
Earlier
Birded 140th St, 180th St. & Lake Byllesby in Dakota County this afternoon.
At Lake Byllesby I found four species of shorebirds on the mudflats

The best spot I am aware of in Dakota Co. is the lake I previously posted just
northeast of Pilot Knob and 170th. There have been 10 species present the past
few days including Sb Dowitcher (1) and Semipalmated

Although passerine migration did pick up last Saturday (in WC Minn) to push

site in Yellow Medicine County (Lanners WMA, NE of St. Leo) today for
