Hi Kevin,
most definitely does MQSeries for z/OS support MQGMO_CONVERT and it has been
ever since I have started to learn about it (I think V1.3.1 or something
like that).
I think it's not supported in MQ programs running under some older versions
of CICS and on VSE/ESA, but I am not 100% sure, if

Here are your answers:

Hi Heinz,
I'm not a VB/MQAX200 guy, but I poked around a bit with the MQAX200 interfaces a while
ago and seem to remember that I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a
value/datatype problem with the
length-argument.
Try to use different values or different types as length argument.
John,
I have looked at the IC01 support pack, but this seems to want me to export
all the flows to a single file and then use mqsifiltermsgflows multiple
times to split out each distinct flow in the single export file.
IC01 *can* export a single message flow! just you should to set

Hi,
I have an MQ application which puts a message in
a queue after setting the RFH2 header using native Java APIs. Another
application using MQJMS latest ma88 pac,
picks the message from the queue. I have created

After CKTI startup there is an immediate trigger as explained

that queues are scanned if they should be triggered again, its
a time interval that has to be expirered after the last trigger
This is the same functionality as the Control Centre. That's what I don't
want. I want to be able to export a single flow, not including any dependant
sub-flows (which I'll export separately and version each file indipendantly
of each other).
What I am trying to do is treat each flow as a source

Is there a rule of thumb here? If you had 10 QMs on 10 different servers

Is there anything specific to older/newer versions of MQ that prevent them

Out of curiosity: Are these persistent messages? Are they relatively large?
I would expect that the actual, physical deletion of a persistent, expired
message would require the same logging overhead as any normal MQGET of the
same persistent message. If you are deleting a large volume of
No, it's using _INPUT_AS_Q_DEF and _BROWSE. Plus the queue is written
to by a WMQI message flow, which means that WMQI already has the queue
opened. So the script could only access it in a shared mode.

Well, Mark, it's kind of a roundabout method and requires that you have a
server with a dead letter handler. And there must be something better, but
how about
1) Unload the DLQ using CSQUTIL
2) Reload to a remote queue that sends the DLQ msgs to some other server
that has a DLQ handler
3) Run
Yes, they are persistent. They're small, though, only 334 bytes.
Still, I imagine you're right that the logger is where the bottleneck
resides. I suppose that the logger process is single threaded, and
gets overwhelmed by the work that's required to delete the messages.
It's not something I

Jim,
I think I remember reading in the announcment of MQ V5.3 that you no longer
have to write these scavenger routines to get rid of expired messages, but
that the queue manager itself will take care of that. Which version of MQ
are you currently on?
I don't know if my memory serves me well, but
I'm on 5.2 now, so you've provided some hope.
