we also use symbolic links on our HP and Sun systems. i.e. /opt/mqm links //mqm /var/mqm links to //var/mqm so if you cd /opt/mqm it takes you to //mqm for example the links are setup initially before we load up mq so we then just perform standard installs and don't need to do anything more.
