I agree it does seem to be a generic issue, however I can't resolve it. I followed the steps that lirc gave to edit the rules on the devfs and still no dice. No there is no node only /dev/lircd which isn't it. Someone said they got it working on 2.6.10-xbox kernel so I might play with that soon.

I'm about to rebuild my box due to a crash last week. I was using ivtv 3.6y with my pvr-150 and 350. I'm reading about people having sound problems with 3.7 and now 3.8. What is the latest version that seems to be reasonably stable or should I just go back and rebuild with 3.6y? ___

Nope everything works very well except sometimes the audio doesn't work on SOME channels.  If I change the channel it will work again.  I recorded two shows back to back on the same channel and one had audio, while the other didn't.  Strange indeed. It's really a personal preference and viewing habit decision (4:3 vs 16:9) Of course if you have a large enough of 4:3 the effective screen size letterboxed can be comprable to a smaller widescreen TV... I think my wife would have been happier if I got a 4:3 as most of the content is still SDTV.

While I'm sure there are some die hard folks out there who prefer all things analog, a DVI ->HDMI cable is probably "best" IMHO. Assuming that connection on your TV isn't already taken up by somethign else, of course. Of course the VGA input is probably the "easiest". I'm a little confused though
