I have this case too and was having serious heat issues.
I modified the case by drilling a grill into the top cover right above the CPU. The same way the new version of the case is.
I don't have any pictures, but if you need some I can provide . . .
What I did was:

You wouldn't need multiple serial ports if your cable boxes can be set for different IR codes, like satellite receivers. I don't know if they can or not, wouldn't hurt to ask your cable company.

Have you tried controlling your receiver? I couldn't see the flashes from my blaster in a digital camera, some cameras have stronger IR filters than others.

It has a single s-video/rca input and a Tuner input for analog cable
or over air tv.
You can use both inputs, but not at the same time.
So, you can have your sat connected to the s-video in and cable tv
into the tuner, but you can only record or watch one of them at a
time.

I have no problem keeping the settings. I know that nvidia-settings
saves the settings when you exit it.
What I do is tweak my settings, close it, restart it and leave it
running minimized. It always survives reboots for me that way. As long
as I don't close it before shutdown.

it happens with a single keypress. 1 press it jumps to some random
point. 2nd presses it rewinds a few seconds(or ff), 3rd press it
creates a save point . . . it goes on like this. Random events.

find it in archives.
After a clean install with 0.17 my FF/REW are doing strange things.
They seem to add and remove save points and jump around to random
times. This happens in liveTV as well as recordings. Everywhere else

It sounds like the frontend can't find lircrc.
Make sure that lircrc is in the ~/.mythtv directory of whatever user

Actually, I don't think they will go away. After the 12 days of data
is gone the EPG will say "unknown" for those channels. At least that's
what happened to mine.
What I did is install Webmin, for all of those linux newbies and
non-experts like me . . . Webmin is your friend.

The install should still go fine until you try to load the kernel
module. You'll have to build a custom module to match the kernel.

power events are a toggle, if the power is on - turn it off, if it's
off - turn it on. That can play havoc with mythtv if everytime you
change a channel it sends a power signal.
