My girlfriend thought I was crazy for spending over $600, because, I
quote could have got a new Tivo to replace my old ReplayTV for less,
including the lifetime subscription.
Once I showed her the automatic commercial skip on her favorite movies
and all the friends episodes it can record, she

With a PVR-350, do you need a CPU with that much horsepower?
(The thought being that a slower XP will generate less heat.)
I agree that

My 1800 is almost enough with some optimized-for-performance settings

Why not use the -350's TV-out?
The 350's output is a hardware decoder for doing one thing, playing
back mpeg (that it captures). It really doesn't support

Yeah, and I hear those new child processes know as Kid version 1.0
and subsequent versions 2.0 and 3.0 also cause budgets to decline.
Doh!

I'm still somewhat undecided about how I like the 350 out. It's nice,
but it has it's quirks... Of course, it's the only hardware decoding
option, so... I want to try out the nVidia out of my mobo, just
haven't had the time to set it up and research the XvMC stuff I know
nothing about.

OK, since there seems to be a ton of people on the list lately
complaining about the lockup issues with PVR-350's, using TVout, I
figured I'd do a little writeup on how we fixed it, and the things we
tried before fixing it.
About a month ago, a friend of mine and I both bought PVR-350's, and

the thing is that the lock ups happen even if we don't use TV Out.
I don't I am on a monitor.
Hey Kenneth,
Thanks for this post I have been having the same problems with my
PVR250. I have been considering buying a new mobo/cpu to try and
solve the problem. Could you send me links to the hardware you
bought, mobo and ram in particular? Also, did you use the retail fan
on the processor

Yeah, we did not have the lockups while using a monitor, and
everything seemed to center around the use of the ivtv frame buffer
and X. Your situation may be different since your using normal monitor
out, but hard to say. For us, it only took a couple pings to bring the
box back to enough life to
