Pam,
2/3 polish to 1/3 base should get you pretty close to the color.

Dawn,
When I carried a skin care line, they charged me tax on the retail but not the
back bar!!! Go figure!!
I no longer carry skin care from that company.

I've tried mixing the polish color in with the gel base also, and its like
diluting the color because the gel is clear. Thought about trying it with
white.. to see if the color would be closer to the polish color, thought about
chosing a deeper shade of polish, since the clear gel would dilute
I've been following this story! Just no time to post. Hope she does well!

You can't do it that way because how would you explain to the client why
they are only getting charged tax on 1/2 of the item.
Item purchased at wholesale for $10
I pay 6% sales tax which is .60 cents (should be tax exempt because I am
reselling)
I sell the item for $20 plus $1.20 tax
I claim a $1
I think you are right about some not knowing and ending up paying all those
extra taxes. It is the beauty suppliers that cause it. I was in another
business and never in any way did I have to pay sales tax on items purchased
for the business. Retail items are taxable at the time of sale
Is that even legal?
At any rate: then just charge sales tax to your customers on the markup, over
and above what you already sales tax on.

Someone mentioned it, a while back. I can't remember who/when, though.

Lynette,
I tried mixing nail polish into a sog base. It did cure fine, however to get
the true color of the polish I had to mix in a good amount of the polish, and
it was close but not exactly the same color. Too much effort and product waste
for me.

I'm not paying twice, I am adjusting it on the form that you suggested so
that I only pay the total tax that should have been paid. HOWEVER, there
are lots of PA salon owners, who have no idea about this form and the
adjustment who actually do pay one an a half of an items wholesale price in

Unless you sell a lot of merchandise, I totally agree Lynnette :>)
