Yeah, I understand the pricing, just wish I could afford one along with
your watch :-). Any idea on how much your scope kits are going to run?
I've never built one and would love to start with yours.

I got a little too inspired by this and just had to implement something
similar. See my video at https://youtu.be/YvihNScbIR4 , and a short
write-up at http://oscilloclock.com . This is truly stretching my limits

No, you've got it backwards... rather than adding rain to a clock, add a
clock to the rain; make the individual digits replace the raindrops. Just
single digits at a time, with no trails of digits following after, though.
Otherwise it looks too much like The Matrix.

Hello,
I see a lot of confusion here, I will try to give some answers:
Getter:
Nixie tubes *do* use getters. The purpose of the getter is to absorb
impurities from gas itself (never 100.00% pure), impurities evolved from
the inner parts (never degassed 100%), in some cases small leaks in the

I'd have to disagree with you there I've used a few of the 'fat' pens and
they're surprisingly comfortable to write with...but then again I do have

I just had a look at the datasheet for the tube and it is shown as all
voltage regulators are encased in one envelope, not four separate.

I don't think they're sealed. I think their tips are open to the main
enclosing envelope.

Many nixie types have a mercury "giver" of one sort or another. A few nixie
types have a "getter" in addition to or instead of a giver. The getter is
only intended to scavenge oxygen and similarly reactive impurities and has
no effect (or a minor effect whose parameters are known and compensated
It may be an expensive pen, but it's a reasonable price for a machined
product containing electronics. It's not easy to make these things.

Ah, but four sets of closely-spaced elements in one envelope? Would it work?
That is why my first reaction was that they had locally walled off the
individual pairs but had left them all in one main gas container. I WANTED it
to be novel like that.
However, the tops are closed - note:- you can
