Hi Helen all,
Wow - this is very much the type of behaviour of a man in a privileged
position, classic top-down nonsense. Shocking that no-one at the talk
commented about the situation...

hi everyone,
i spoke to tamiko today heard a bit more of the story. she was not
actually presenting herself, but was in the audience at a panel on
activist art when one of the panel members, who was showing tamiko's
work as an example, invited her to comment on her work. her web site was

Well, this is rather thought-provoking.
Aside from the offensive stance of the Director towards the whole AR
practice, which could possibly be well motivated and arguable,
I can't really see the point of censoring or dump an artwork being
discussed during a panel at Transmediale.
Did they
tamiko says that she needs to see how the situation develops before she
can comment further ...

Thought this was an interesting development. Tamiko Thiel is one of the
view artists I have encountered who is creating thoughtful and critical
artworks working with augmented reality. I think this is a particularly
hard (and fascinating) form to work with. What could Gansig have meant?

thanks for this Ruth - I'm working with augmented reality at the
minute. As you say it is very difficult technically to get it working,
and also difficult (for me at the moment) to find ways use it in my
art, to extend what I've been doing. My brain is under pressure! But

I'd love to find out more as well, if we can?
I do love a good open and uncensored public debate about the arts. As long as
it falls within my own aesthetic and cultural paradigms without me having to
open up to the possibility that there are new and emerging art forms that I
might not like.
I've put together tons of links (on Delicious) on the subject of
augmented reality - might be of interest:
