Thanx it worked quite fine the kernel loads nicely with my original settings .
A few problems appeared though not directly related to the kernel .
First the new kernel doesnt seem to accept the nvidia drivers so after
switching the kernel i have to edit XF86config-4 cause the new kernel runs

Why is it that I need to edit /etc/ppp/resolve.conf and add the search
domain at the top above the PDNS and SNDS in order to get my e-mail
working? I then have the edit /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf to stop it overwriting
resolve.conf. Could it be something that I've done or maybe there is a
step I

I was having trouble with the Nvidia RPM's from the Mandrakeuser.org site.
I was able to install the rpm's. X would start. The Nvidia logo would
appear and I'd get to the KDE desktop. BUT, OpenGL wouldn't work.
1) I didn't know how to quit X. or boot up without X

However you must not forget that M$ is where it is today NOT because of
good software but because of a history of sharp practice in marketing
