[newbie] Can't run scripts in /etc/rc.d/init.d

Hi, There's a very strange behaviour I noted when I try to create a script in the /etc/rc.d/init.d directory (logged as root, of course), and give it execute permissions. After creating that script by means of the KWrite editor (let's say it's name is xxx), when I run it ( ./xxx), I get
