Once again I'm having trouble connecting with the Internet via Linux. I'm running LM

I start KPPP from the desktop and everything appears to proceed as it should. I get
the message "Logging onto network", Netscape opens up, then nothing else happens.

I've installed Netatalk 1.5.2 in Linux and have enabled Appletalk on the Mac (OS 8.5).
When the Linux system boots, I see the line that says "starting atalk", so that
appears to be ok.
The Mac never sees Linux. When I manually type in the server IP address (192.168.1.1)

I've been having a problem in Linux and I have no idea where to look for the culprit.
My problem is that, periodically, while I'm online (and only when I'm online), the
system will get extremely sluggish to the point where I usually have to power down and
reboot.
When this happens, there are
I have kppp up and running but my problem is that if I'm logged in as root, the
default login name and password I've chosen show up in the initial kppp window, but if
i'm logged in as anyone else, the information isn't there and it has to be manually
typed in.
