I've been trying to install a PCI modem with an Intel 536ep chipset.
Intel provides a driver for Mandrake 10.1 (which I'm running). This is
what I did:
1. I downloaded the following package from Intel's website:
Intel-536ep-4.69.1-mdk10.1-up.tgz
2. I installed the 2.6 kernel-source from CD2

Mandrake comes with some support for Tajik, including a Tajik keyboard
that I managed to get to work with the command setxkbmap tj and the
right font.
However, at my job, with the same setup on a different computer, the
keyboard does not work although it is clear that it's loaded.

Some of the programs that I use have nice anti-aliased fonts in the
menu's. Examples are: Evolution, Epiphany, Galeon, Abiword, Gnumeric
Others have bad looking fonts. Examples: Gnucash, Sylpheed-Claws, Grip
Apart from the standard Mdk download edition I installed
there was
sound. So the solution was to use the OSS driver instead of the ALSA
one.
The next challenge will be ACPI.

For the last half year, I have been using Mandrake 9.0 on my Fujitsu
Siemens Amilo D laptop. During that time the sound was working fine.
A few weeks ago, I did a fresh install of Mandrake 9.2. It works fine,
but the sound is not working at all. Because I am a newbie, I have no
idea what to do.
