I'm running ARK on KDE, and it seems to handle .rar very well.
I havent actually tried to create a rar archive with it yet, but I know it
works ok for opening!

guys at rarlabs have a linux command line version that works well with
.rar files. The website indicates it's a trial version, but you could
say that I'm still trying it out. If that doesn't help, WinRAR works

The fully functional RAR program is available from Vincent Danen's
site. He has the rpm available for multiple versions of Mandrake, for
instance rar for mdk9.2
