The import fonts utility does hang sometimes - it usually means there are some weird fonts in Windows. I've never known it affect any programs, though. The only thing I can think of is that you have imported a font with the same name but different properties over one of your X-fonts, though

Thanks to the Guys who responded regarding the fonts and firewall. It was simply a case of confusing Mandrake Control Centre with the KDE Control Panel setup. Once I sat and thought about things, and read what was in front of me, it all worked out fine. Name of the game with linux I guess.
