When I installed linux it recognized my nic fine. Now that I am in it I
don't know where to look to configure it, and other basic things such as
actually connecting to a windows machine. Can you recommend links on
setting up your nic as in what all the options mean an what you need to set
up

For a start, can the Linux box see itself? Try pinging the Linux box
from the Linux box using the IP address, instead

Ah btw, you have to use samba if you are going to do more than tcpip web
or ftp transfers. But anyway a ping should go through.
I have 9 computers running Windows 98 used in a simple Microsoft network I
want to set up a webserver for the network using Linux-Mandrake 6.0 but
can't seem to get the Ethernet card or the computer to be seen by them or
for the Linux machine to see the Windows98 workstations.
