I just upgraded from a nVidia TNT video card to a nVidia GeForce4 mx420,
and x wont start anymore. I am running Mdk 8.1. I tried running mcc but
there was no entry for GeForce4 in the list and none of the avaiable
entries would work. Previously I was only using the generic nvidia driver.

I doubt that the GF4 will be supported in any way by mdk8.1. Either
grab the driver from nVidia's website and follow directions or upgrade,
either to 8.2 or 9.0.

You mean /tmp ??
There is no so much space to win when deleting this one.
Try:
mkdir /tmp
mkdir /tmp/.X11-unix
mkdir /tmp/.font-unix
and reboot with runlevel 3, startx.
If you mean /my account/tmp,
There is no any file X need.

well just when i thought i was doing ok, i went and deleted the contents
of /tmp on account i had run out of disk space and i thought /tmp's
contents were well, just that, temporary.
obviously not so since now, i cannot boot into X, i can get into
runlevel3, since my friend has my cd i thought
