I tested it today and found that netscape (4.72 128
encryption version) read .png files in linux no
problem. I didn't test the wandows version..

Here is a list of mime types it supports. PNG is on there, along
with WAV, MIDI, MPEG, MP3, and a shitload of others.
It will make your web browsing in Linux as good as it is with
Windows. (Would be better except Netscape crashes a lot :-)
.png is a file type that is highly compressed without
much quality loss. Sort of a suped up .jpg. It is
not a proprietary format of any kind. It just hasn't
caught on yet is all. Gimp'll read em. Most browsers
will too. I don't remember running into one recently
so I can't say for sure if
