I'm running 10 Official (kernel 2.6.3-7) and have a 256 MB memstick.
Mandrake sees it and lets me read and write to it (fat32), but it seems
to take forever - an 80MB copy from it took me over an hour.
1) whats am I doing wrong that it's taking so long? Is it the fat32 format?
2) I need to pass
Hello all
For those of you who helped me with my memory stick problem, I think it's a
non-issue for now. I think my usb ports are dead. Which is not a bad thing since I
can justify buying a new pc now to my wife. :) This one is fairly old. But thanks
for your help, anyway.
My new task

not to sound stupider than usual, but how do you know the ports are

Hi, I saw the thread about USB mass storage devices, but I'm not sure if what I'm
talking about is the same thing, so I apologize if it is. I'purchased one of those
USB memory sticks (made by GE) and it works great for my laptop (WinXP; sorry, I need
to keep a Win machine for school) but I

It should work. What do you mean by 'won't recognise'?
Does /mnt/removable get created? If so, try to mount it: mount
/mnt/removable.
As root, Run tail -f /var/log/messages and plug it in. Does something
happen? (CTRL-C to end this).

I have access to a Fujifilm 256Mb USB memory stick. Anyone know what device
type should be used to call this in /etc/fstab? Since it is readable by
default from win98, I assume it is formated as vfat. Can anyone confirm.
So:
mount -t vfat /dev/??? /mnt/removable Y/N?

My apologies.
The site does say a smart card reader. However, I am reading a memory
stick from my Sony camera. If you go to the Zio home page you will see
a ZiO! for Memory Stick.
My point was that I was searching for help on a way to access the
device. That site helped.
I found a good web site for my memory stick reader:
http://www.csc.calpoly.edu/~hjew/zio/
There is a SDDR09-HOWTO the help point me in the right direction. I was
able to read the memory stick.
Thanks

Hi,
How can I access my memory stick reader via the USB port?
Joe
Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com
If you'd like I can scan an article on how to get USB any device with
USB to work, including the stick.
Would that be helpful?
I got the article from a UK magazine called Linux Format.
