Matthew, could you please turn off html for posts to the list? Many of us
don't use it, or display it. Others simply never see any post that is in
html.

the time Kpppd crashes somehow (no connection timer) but is still running
when I look for it with $ top.
I try killing the processes, but they won't die.

How are you Killing the process? Did you try deleting this file?
/home/chal/.kde/share/apps/kppp/kppp.pid
the chal is my user name, so apply whatever yours is there.
I had a similar problem and this solved it.
