[newbie] File copying from CD question

Not sure whats causing this, maybe its the way I originally burned the cds, but when I'm copying files from a cd to the hd after a few files I get The file or directory /mnt/cdrom2/(dirname)/(filename) does not exist. If I reload the cd I can copy a few more files then I get the same thing.

Chris, I suppose you are using Mandrake 9.0 with supermount enabled. If this is your case, the problem is a bug with supermount in the original kernel of Mandrake 9.0 (solved if you update the kernel). The easy way to solve your problem is to disable supermount: became root (su .

Ok, here's an easy one, (he said) I have downloaded a couple of .tar.gz files and would like to save them to a floppy or ten. I have been through the two books on linux that are in my library, and can't find a way to do it. I think my problem is again the Windows mentality getting in the way.

Dennisthe simpleist way for a 'windows mentality guy' is to put a dos formatted floppy in your drive, click on the desktop floppy icon to open a kfm window to the floppy. Click on the (either desktop or panel) home icon to open another kfm window and navigate to your downloaded file's

try going into /mnt/win98/ and doing a dir to make sure you have the right capitalaziton and such Linux is picky about that
