Now, another thing I observed. In the meantime I did install Fedora 2 in
another Notebook and everything went fine and my openBSD is indeed
accessible. When upgrading the Fedora kernel to 2.6.8.x

I could be all wrong, but afaik, the upgrade source for 10.1 CE is cooker
at the moment. Kernels normally don't show up with the

Thanks for your reply guys.
Well, in the beginning of the thread I had a copy of the -v option but
obviously got lost after few replies!

I do appreciate and thanks for taking the time to reply to my problem.
I included the -v output in an earlier reply and hope that this will
help.
Cheers.

As I mentioned in one of my earlier postings, when running (on the same

You don't happen to have access to logs
in general I do have access to the OpenBSD server's logs but I'm
wondering why closing the connection with Mandrake only???
Could it be something with Kernel 2.6 cause, if I'm not mistaken,
Mandrake 10.1 is 2.6 - or not?
Please notice that when running Knoppix 3.6 I'm using the version with

Default is 2.6, yes.

man pages are your friend:
-v Verbose mode. Causes ssh to print debugging messages about its
progress. This is helpful in debugging connection, authentica-
tion, and configuration
The firewall isn't a problem as the same Notebook (with the same eth
card etc.) does make the connection without a problem when running
Knoppix 3.6 Live Linux on it!!! Besides, no firewall is activated on my
Mandrake box. The known_hosts file was also deleted but no effect!

Any people from Mandrake ever heard of this problem??
I've got 10.1 installed on a few boxes and laptops without any ssh probs.
Connecting is no big deal..I couldn't do without, actually:)

Its a shot in the dark, but besides ensuring that ssh connections are
allowed at the firewall, have you tried going into the hidden directory
.ssh in your home directory and deleting or emptying the file
known_hosts?

Hi,
I just installed the 10.1 and when I try to ssh to remote BSD server
having a dynamic IP accessible from the Internet, I get the following:
Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer
Please note that I can ssh this server from a WINXP PC without any
problem!!!
Thanks
