I have had similar problems. For a whole day, every time I booted, I got the Eth0 [FAILED] message. However, the next day, no problems at all. I have no idea what is going on, other than something weird with the Cable Company Server (I did call them, and they said that they had not changed

Thanks Axalon. It worked and now I'm a much happier camper. My final setup is the dhcp with the hard-coded ip address of the default gateway. Now I only have to figure out how to set my video to something different than 320x200 :-( Thanks again, Sean - Original Message - From: Axalon
